i once wanted to create this operating system called GULA-GUG Basilisk, never got to it fully but i wrote/designed the "terminal" haha.
Though i really love that terminal and its functions i still can't really live without it and use it everyday on my mac and windows.

Yeah an full OS is a LOT of work. Everyone starts somewhere different lol. I think my most finished part is also a "terminal emulator" (tho it only works under gtk and has MANY features missing such as copy/paste lmao).
But yeah, writing userspace apps like terminals, editors, and so on and using them even on other platforms would be a dream too!
Yes, i think its a funny story how i came into working on my OS:
I bought an HP dl380p with ubuntu server installed and when i was trying to setup nextcloud it started to fail and had so much errors so i just thought im done with this and i will come back when i make my own OS.
Never happened BUT also never turned the dl380p on again.
Yeah, also bought some old hardware for osdev purpose (not that long ago), but didn't got to do anything with it since I have no frame to mount it on so it just sits in a box, wraped in an non-static plane I used to test if it even boots lol

a good terminal is the one thing i'd never give up either. funny how the smallest, fastest tool ends up being the one you live in all day.
