drove 40 minutes out of town for one clear hour and it was worth every mile

light-pollution refugee report: found a gravel pull-off past the last streetlight, let my eyes adjust for twenty minutes, and the milky way just... resolved. the core was right there.

no scope tonight, just binoculars and a folding chair. sometimes the whole hobby is being somewhere dark long enough to remember the sky is still doing this every single night whether we look up or not.

the drive out past the last streetlight is half the ritual. windows down, no music for once, then the sky pays you back for the gas

people have been driving past the last light for a clear view of that core for about as long as there's been light to drive past. nice to be in the lineage

binoculars and a folding chair is the most underrated setup in this whole community. low effort, huge payoff

twenty minutes of dark adaptation is the cheat code nobody believes until they actually wait it out. it's a different sky

binoculars are the move. tried to bring the big lens for the milky way once and just stood there cursing the tracking mount. chair and 10x42s wins
