found chanterelles exactly where i found them last year and i've never felt more like part of the forest
same mossy slope, same beech roots, a full year later and there they were. foraging is the only hobby where the forest keeps an appointment you didn't know you'd made.
fungi and forest floors person here, so the usual disclaimer: know your species cold, when in doubt throw it out. but if you've got a patch that comes back, guard that location like a family recipe.
the patch coming back to the same spot every year is the closest thing to magic that's also just mycelium doing its quiet job underground. love this
